This Privacy Policy describes how CoTalk (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and discloses your information when you use our CoTalk application within Canva.
1. Information We Collect
We believe in minimizing data collection. We only collect the necessary information to facilitate real-time voice communication.
A. Information You Provide
- Display Name: We collect the name you voluntarily enter to identify you to other participants in the voice room.
- Audio Data: To enable voice chat, we process audio inputs from your device’s microphone. This audio is streamed directly to other participants (Peer-to-Peer) or via a temporary relay. We do NOT record, store, or analyze your audio conversations.
B. Automatically Collected Information
- Technical Data: We may collect ephemeral metadata required for establishing connections, such as IP addresses (processed temporarily for WebRTC signaling) and connection status.
- Room Metadata: We store temporary session information (e.g., “User X is in Room Y”) in our Realtime Database to manage room occupancy. This data is deleted when you leave the room or close the application.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information solely for the following purposes:
- To Provide the Service: Establishing and maintaining real-time voice connections between you and other collaborators.
- To Improve Performance: Monitoring connection stability to optimize the quality of service.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We only share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Other Participants: Your display name, mute status, and speaking status are visible to other users in the same CoTalk room.
- Service Providers: We use Google Firebase to facilitate signaling (connection establishment) and real-time state management. You can review Google’s Privacy Policy for more details.
4. Data Retention
- Session Data: Room participation data (who is in the room) is ephemeral and is cleared from our database when you leave the call or when the session ends.
- Audio: Audio streams are transient and are never stored on our servers.
5. Your Rights and Choices
- Microphone Access: You can control the app’s access to your microphone through your browser’s site settings or the permission pop-up. Revoking access will prevent the voice chat feature from functioning.
- Display Name: You can change your display name at any time before joining a call.
6. Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information. All signaling traffic is encrypted (HTTPS/WSS), and audio streams are encrypted via WebRTC standards. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date.
